"A checklist with 196 Sphingidae species confirmed from Brazil is provided. Three species depends on confirmation and another five are likely present. The richest Brazilian state is Amazonas, followed by Pará with 101 and 92 species, respectively. Pictures and distribution maps for some little-known species are given. The following genus is a syn. rev.: Amphonyx Poey, 1832 of Cocytius Hübner, [1819]. The following genera are syn. nov.: Morcocytius Eitschberger, 2006 and Pseudococytius Eitschberger, 2006 of Cocytius Hübner, [1819]. The following species are syn. nov.: Amphonyx kofleri Eitschberger, 2006 and Amphonyx jamaicensis Eitschberger, 2006 of C. duponchel (Poey, 1832). The following species are syn. rev.: Amphonyx rivularis Butler, 1875 of C. duponchel (Poey, 1832). The following species are comb. rev.: C. beelzebuth (Boisduval, [1875]), Cocytius duponchel, C. haxairei Cadiou, 2006, C. lucifer Rothschild & Jordan, 1910, C. mephisto Haxaire & Vaglia, 2002, C. mortuorum Rothschild & Jordan, 1910, and C. vitrinus Rothschild & Jordan, 1910. The following species are stat. rev.: Isognathus brasiliensis Clark, 1919, Manduca paphus (Cramer, 1779), Nyceryx cratera Rothschild & Jordan, 1916, Nyceryx lemonia Gehlen, 1941, Orecta tithonus (Kirby, 1886) and Xylophanes reussi Closs, 1920. The following species are stat. nov.: Protambulyx fasciatus Gehlen, 1928, Madoryx dentatus Gehlen, 1931, and Nyceryx saturata Rothschild & Jordan, 1903. The following species is sp. nov.: Protambulyx pearsoni described from Guapimirim, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The following species are new records for Brazil: Manduca boliviana (Clark, 1923), Nyceryx lemonia, Xylophanes ploetzi (Möschler, 1876), and Xylophanes undata Rothschild & Jordan, 1903. Manduca duquefi Haxaire & Vaglia, 2007 and Manduca herbini Haxaire, 2014 are probable new country records that need future investigation and confirmation."
