"All taxa of the genus Daphnis Hübner, 1819 are listed in a checklist. Because of the loss of the type specimen, neotypus is designated of Sphinx hypothous Cramer, 1780. This was demanded by Diehl (1982: 5). Daphnis hypothous auct., nec Cramer (1780), is divided into two subspecies, so that Daphnis hypothous crameri subspec. nov. has to been described as new for science. Darapsa moorei W.J. MacLeay, 1866 stat. rev., due to the genetic differences to Sphinx hypothous Cramer, 1780, has to be raised to species level again."
