Syntypes [South Africa: Western Cape] Cape of Good Hope; 1 [India:] "Coast of Coromandel" [Tamil Nadu/Andhra Pradesh] [coll. C. Stoll]. The specimen from "Coromandel" is a misidentified Hippotion echeclus and should not be selected as lectotype. Eitschberger, 2006, Neue ent. Nachr. 59: 371, “designated” the type locality as the Cape of Good Hope but in the absence of the designation of a lectotype, his action is immaterial.
