HOLOTYPE ♂ Thailand: Pak Chong, Thanon Thamarat, km7 Amphur Khao Yai [Amphur Pak Chong, km7 Thanon Dhanarajata, Khao Yai National Park], ≈380m, ix.1992 (Steinke, Lehmann) (ex coll. R. Roesler) [coll. Eitschberger].
Examination of the long series of Leucophlebia from mainland Asia and Sundaland in NHMUK has shown that the purported diagnostic features of the habitus given by Eitschberger (2003) fall well within the range of individual variation of Leucophlebia lineata. Likewise, the features of the male genitalia that were said to distinguish Leucophlebia pinratanai from Leucophlebia lineata all fall within the range of individual variation illustrated by Eitschberger (2003) for that species. Furthermore, the DNA barcode of a paratype of Leucophlebia pinratanai, and other specimens from Thailand, falls into the same tight cluster and BIN (AAD6248) as those of moths from Burma, Laos, Vietnam, Sumatra, Sumba and Alor. Consequently, there is no justification for maintaining Leucophlebia pinratanai as a species distinct from Leucophlebia lineata.
