Wild silkmoths (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) were studied in the field and samples were collected. Some females of Antheraea (Antheraea) rumphii C. Felder in von Frauenfeld, 1861, Neodiphthera ceramensis (BOUVIER, 1928) (Opodiphthera), and Syntherata innescens Naumann & Brechlin, 2001 came to light. Because of the Islamic Ramadan festivities no post office opened and there was no ferry connection between the islands of Seram and Ambon available. Therefore, the females could not be used for egg laying and rearing. Fortunately, on the penultimate day of the stay, one of my local friends found a female resting in a Pacific almond tree (pili nut tree), Canarium sp. (Burseraceae). About 40 eggs were received during the next two days and hand carried to West Java. After seven days larvae hatched in Pangandaran, West Java, Indonesia and were doing well on Ligustrum ovalifolium Hassk. (Olivaceae) for about a week. After aircon has been switched off in the afternoon due to cold outside temperature (23° C), unfortunately all larvae died during the night. At the time being we are able to describe the hithero unknown 1st instar larva of this species and compare with other species of the genus Syntherata Maassen, 1873."
