The adults of several taxa of Attacus were usually described being highly variable moths, cf. U. & L.H. Paukstadt (2000a, 2002a). Recent breeding studies carried out by the authors confirmed that the adults are actually variable but they also revealed that the complete offspring of a single parent couple is morphologically very similar and inevitably barely variable in terms of the number of accessory fenestrae. Studies were carried out with A. atlas (LINNAEUS, 1758) from Thailand (Phrae Prov.), West Malaysia (Pahang), Indonesia (W Sumatra Prov., C Java Prov.), and A. erebus FRUHSTORFER, 1920 from Indonesia (S Sulawesi Prov.). The reared specimens were compared morphologically with ♂ and ♀ A. atlas from Indonesia (Aceh Prov.) which were collected at light traps by the authors from between 2006 and 2009 and with descriptions and illustrations in literature"
