These phenomena are especially typical of archipelagoes, where different taxa occur on closely located islands. The diverse ecological conditions of the islands determine the presence of a great number of subordinate taxa. Owing to the reduced flight activity, the species of Lasiocampidae are characterized by a high level of endemism on isolated islands. Islands of continental origin (Sumatra, Borneo) have a lower level of endemism, with centers on the mountain ranges. The endemism level is much higher in islands of biogenic origin (the Philippines). The Pacific islands have a higher index of specific endemism. At the same time, the islands of mixed and oceanic origin have low species diversity by a large fraction of endemic taxa. The boundaries of species distribution are determined not only by the landscape or climatic factors but also by biological ones.&amp;quot;&lt;/p&gt;

Given these rapid advances, the checklist of the Colombian Saturniidae needs to be updated to cover the taxonomy, distribution, and diversity of these moths in the country. After an extensive review of literature, data repositories, and collections, an updated and comprehensive list of Saturniidae from Colombia is presented, including their occurrence status in each Colombian department. The checklist includes 7 subfamilies, 55 genera, and 790 taxa (766 in species rank) of Saturniidae in Colombia. Current distribution data show that the genus &lt;em&gt;Winbrechlinia&lt;/em&gt;, the subgenus &lt;em&gt;Darylesia&lt;/em&gt;, 379 species, and 18 subspecies are endemic to Colombia. Moreover, a dichotomic key to the Colombian subfamilies is provided. A few taxonomic changes are proposed based on a thorough taxonomic revision of the Colombian taxa. This revision also addresses the issue of outdated species names reported in the first checklist of Colombian Saturniidae (Amarillo-Su&amp;aacute;rez 2000) and excludes old records of taxa that are considered dubious for Colombia based on new evidence. By presenting an updated list of Colombian species, including the newly described taxa, this study aims at eliminating confusion stemming from outdated names and provides a useful resource for researching and conservating Saturniidae in Colombia. We wish to offer a common reference for future studies on the biodiversity and biogeography of moths in the Neotropical realm.&amp;quot;&lt;/p&gt;

Species of this subfamily are widely distributed in Southeast Brazil, with many endemics to the Cerrado, and important as indicators of ecosystem quality. Specimens of Ceratocampinae were collected in the Parque Estadual do Mirador, Maranh&amp;atilde;o state, Brazil. &lt;em&gt;Adeloneivaia acuta&lt;/em&gt; (Schaus, 1896), &lt;em&gt;Adeloneivaia schubarti&lt;/em&gt; Barros &amp;amp; O. Mielke, 1970, &lt;em&gt;Eacles penelope&lt;/em&gt; (Cramer, 1775) and &lt;em&gt;Megaceresa pulchra&lt;/em&gt; (Bouvier, 1923) are recorded for the first time in Maranh&amp;atilde;o state and Northeast Brazil and &lt;em&gt;Eacles fairchildi&lt;/em&gt; May &amp;amp; Oiticica, 1941, only for Maranh&amp;atilde;o. The record of five Ceratocampinae (Saturniidae) species increases the knowledge on the diversity and the importance of preserving those of this subfamily in the Cerrado biome of Maranh&amp;atilde;o state and the Northeast region of Brazil.&amp;quot;&lt;/p&gt;

Hawkmoths were sampled monthly from October 2004 to February 2007 (27 months). We recorded 31 species from 16 genera, three tribes, and three families. Macroglossinae was the most abundant subfamily and represented ca. 71% of all species. Out of the 277 individuals collected, 88.4% were males. Five new records were made for northeastern Brazil: &lt;em&gt;Enyo gorgon&lt;/em&gt; (Cramer, 1777), &lt;em&gt;Perigonia stulta&lt;/em&gt; (Herrich-Sch&amp;auml;ffer, [1854]), &lt;em&gt;Eupyrrhoglossum sagra&lt;/em&gt; (Poey, 1832), &lt;em&gt;Nyceryx coffaeae&lt;/em&gt; (Walker, 1856) and &lt;em&gt;Xylophanes chiron&lt;/em&gt; (Drury, 1773). Eight further species were recorded for the first time for the Pernambuco Endemism Center, showing the important role played by Tapacur&amp;aacute; Station in preserving the biodiversity of this insect group. Species richness and abundance were directly related to rainfall: about 70% of all individuals were captured during the rainy season. Changes in Sphingidae populations may, however, be caused by other factors that directly affect either larvae and adults of those insects, such as matrix effect and forest fragment size, which influence migration processes and the presence of predators.&amp;quot;&lt;/p&gt;
