Hemaris alaiana
Diagnostic description:
Very similar to Hemaris tityus but marginal forewing and hindwing bands wider, and thorax and posterior abdominal segments less bright yellow and dorsal abdominal band more yellow. Forewing upperside very similar to Hemaris tityus but marginal band broader and crossveins at apex of discal cell more heavily scaled. Hindwing upperside with basal area less yellow than in Hemaris tityus. Hindwing underside with basal area less yellow than in Hemaris tityus.
Male genitalia: Very similar to Hemaris tityus but: Right harpe apically broader and more strongly spatulate. Phallus shorter.
Female genitalia: Most similar to Hemaris radians in having a funnel-shaped antrum (the antrum is approximately square in outline in Hemaris tityus).
