Hippotion rosae
Very similar to Hippotion dexippus but immediately distinguished by the bright pink dorsal scaling on the antennae. Antenna short, clubbed.Labial palp simple, second segment as broad as long, truncate. Outer margins of tegulae white. Outer spur of midtibia considerably shorter than inner. Forewing upperside pale grey speckled with blackish, a quadrangular patch of denser brownish-black speckling along the inner margin; discal spot black, circular, prominent. Hindwing upperside grey with an ill-defined yellowish medial band; fringes chequered black and white. Male FWL: 40-43 mm; female FWL: 41-45 mm.
Male genitalia: uncus slender; gnathos slender, approximately equal in length to uncus; valve with numerous small stridulatory scales; harpe rather long, apically upcurved, dorsal margin irregular; phallus rather short and stout, slightly curved, with apical process dentate on left and right; vesica unarmed.
Female genitalia: antrum broad, tapering towards ostium bursae, wider at base of ductus bursae; ductus bursae very wide and short, with two sac-like extensions; corpus bursae long but no wider than ductus bursae; signum ending well short of apex of corpus bursae.
