Taxonomic Notes:
Proposed as a subspecies of Amplypterus donysa. Raised to species status (although he questioned its validity as a species separate from Adhemarius donysa) and transferred to Adhemarius by d'Abrera, 1987, Sphingidae Mundi: 52. Listed as a subspecies of Adhemarius donysa by Carcasson & Heppner, 1996, Atlas Neotrop. Lepid. 4B: 53. Reinstated as a species by Cadiou & Hodges, 1998, Proc. Entomol. Soc. Wash. 100: 202.
