Type data:
HOLOTYPE [♀] No locality given [CMNH]. Boisduval received the holotype from Becker "sans pouvoir obtenir un renseignement positif sur la provenance" and from its resemblance to Darapsa myron, guessed that it must have come from the Americas, probably Mexico.

In view of the close morphological similarity between this species and other Gnathothlibus, together with the recorded hybridization on Tahiti with Gnathothlibus eras (see Rougerie et al., 2012; STI ), Everyx astyanor was transferred to Gnathothlibus by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers.
