The type specimens in the National Zoological Collection: Lepidoptera

The only bombycoid type included is that of Eupterote minor Hampson, [1893]. The taxon is given as Spalyria minor Moore, 1893 (Indian Museum Notes 3 (2): 89), which appears to be based on the same two syntypes (one male and one female). However, volume 1 of the Fauna of British India was published no later than 5 April 1893 (see Nässig, W.A. & Nye, I.W.B. 1991. Case 2737. Brahmaea Walker, 1855 (Insects, Lepidoptera): proposed confirmation of Bombyx certhia Fabricius, 1793 as the type species. Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature 48 (2): 137–139), whereas the copy of issue 3(2) of Indian Museum Notes in the library of NHMUK bears the date stamp "August 1893". Thus, Hampson's description is treated as having priority over that of Moore, and the taxon Moore described is treated as a junior secondary homonym and objective synonym. It would appear (supported by Hampson's use of "ined." when referring to Moore's work) that Hampson saw an unpublished manuscript of Moore's paper and included and published Eupterote minor in his book before Moore published Spalyria minor in the Indian Museum Notes. However, these notes are based on a quick assessment of the situation and need to be confirmed by a more in-depth study.
