Abstract:

"A new species of the genus Sphinx Linnaeus, 1758, is described from southcentral Texas, based material collected and reared by Michael Van Buskirk. The validity of the new species is based on the unique maculation of the moth, male genital structure, coloration of the 5th larval instar and DNA barcode analysis. On the basis of genital characters, Sphinx coloradus Smith, 1887 is, as established by Carcasson & Heppner, (1996), confirmed as a synonym of the nominotypical subspecies of Sphinx dollii Neumoegen, 1881."
