| Abstract: | "A new genus of the family Eupterotidae, subfamily Eupterotinae, from S and SE Asia is erected: Hampsonjana gen. n. We introduce this new genus for a small group of species formerly erroneously included in the very distinct and different genus Pseudojana HAMPSON, 1893, which are no Eupterotinae at all, but belong to the "Ganisa-group" of genera. Type species of the new genus is Pseudojana pallidipennis HAMPSON, 1895. Specimens of the here described genus are of typical ochreous or beige brown (sometimes in part or entirely darker melanistic) to yellow ground colour and bear several straight parallel lines mostly on both fore- and hindwings. As far as known, the larvae are feeding on bamboo leaves, and a typical adult colour and pattern of species in the family feeding on monocotyledonous plants of the family Poaceae (or even order Poales?) is discussed. A taxonomic revision of the new genus with description of several new species will follow in due course." |
