Abstract:

"The authors describe the previously unknown early stages of Compsulyx cochereaui, the emblematic species of Sphingidae of New Caledonia and illustrate all the immature stages, from egg to pupa. They discuss possible larval food plants, all of which belong to the family Cunoniaceae. Although not rejecting the validity of the tribe Ambulycini, they question its characterization based on the pupal cremaster character proposed by Nakamura (1977)."
