Abstract:

"The recently described genus Hampsonjana Nässig & Naumann, 2022 is revised to species level; the type species, H. pallidipennis (Hampson, 1895), and the other two previously known taxa H. grandis (Rothschild, 1917) and H. vitalisi (Candèze, 1927) were all described in the genus Pseudojana Hampson, 1893, a genus of completely different morphology placed outside the subfamily Eupterotinae within the “Ganisa-Group”. H. grandis, stat. rev., is removed from synonymy with H. pallidipennis and given species rank. Eight further species are described as new to science: H. haraldluxi, sp. n., from Laos, Thailand, SE Myanmar, and S China (Yunnan), HT ♂ in SMFL. H. yunnanensis, sp. n., from S China (Yunnan), HT ♂ to be deposited in MfNB. H. indica Giusti, Naumann & Nässig, sp. n., from Meghalaya and Assam, India, HT ♂ in NHMUK. H. bomdila, sp. n., from Arunachal Pradesh, India, HT ♂ to be deposited in MfNB. H. natmatoungensis, sp. n., from Chin State, W Myanmar, HT ♂ to be deposited in MfNB. H. dangi, sp. n., from Kontum Prov., S Vietnam, HT ♂ to be deposited in MfNB. H. mussoensis, sp. n., from Tak Prov., W Thailand, HT ♂ to be deposited in MfNB. And finally H. baliensis, sp. n., from Bali, Indonesia, HT ♂ in CMWM. All species including holotypes of the three previously known taxa are figured in colour. Preimaginals of only two of the taxa, H. grandis and H. mussoensis sp. n., are known and shown here for direct comparison. It appears that the larvae of most or all species of the genus are probably bamboo feeders."
