Abstract: | "A further new genus of the family Eupterotidae, subfamily Eupterotinae, is erected: Patulognatha gen. n.; type species Tagora patula Walker, 1855, by present designation. The type species, Patulognatha patula (Walker, 1855), comb. n., holotype ♀ (by monotypy, in NHMUK, London), described from “Silhet”, was for a long time included in the genus Sphingognatha C. & R. Felder, 1874, but also in different other Eupterotinae genera, which included the two other so far described representatives of Patulognatha: P. murina (Moore, 1877), comb. n. (lectotype ♂ designated here, in London), and P. nigriceps (Hampson, 1893), comb. n. (lectotype ♂ designated here, in London), both from Sri Lanka. A brief history about the treatment of the involved taxa is given. The new genus is differentiated from Sphingognatha C. & R. Felder, 1874 and related genera and described in detail. Genitalia structures and leg preparations of the taxa treated are figured, and we also include the preimaginal instars of another, so far undescribed species. Further research with descriptions and revisionary work of other species will be published soon in a few further parts." |
