Abstract:

"A breeder of Saturniidae in Malang reported on a remarkable primary host plant for the larvae of Attacus atlas (LINNAEUS, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) observed in Malang in the East Java Province of Indonesia: Rumput israel (vernacular name), Asystasia gangetica T. ANDERSON (Acanthaceae) of the ordo Lamiales. A. gangetica is one of the important „weeds“ on rubber and oil palm plantations and also grows on roadsides. In addition to its use as animal feed in cattle, goat and sheep farming, A. gangetica can also be used as a pharmacologically very active plant in traditional medicine for the treatment of respiratory diseases and digestive disorders. Meister (2011) listed about 100 primary and substitute food plants for A. atlas."
