Abstract:

"Two primary host plants for Antheraea (A.) jana (STOLL in Cramer, 1782) (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) from the Island of Java, Indonesia are recorded. Several cocoons of A. (A.) jana were found in the Daerah Istimewa / D.I. (Special Region) Yogyakarta, Zentral Java on Muntingia calabura L. (Muntingiaceae). Vernacular names are Pohon Ceri (ind.), Jamaican cherry, Panama berry, Singapore cherry (eng.), and Japanse kers (holl.). This host plant has got botanically nothing to do with the species rich genus of the cherry trees, Prunus L. (Roseaceae). Larvae and cocoons of A. (A.) jana were found in Malang, East Java Province on Terminalia mantaly H. PERRIER, 1953 (Combretaceae), vernacular name Madascar Almond. Both host plants are probably mentioned here for the first time in literature, cf. Paukstadt, Suhardjono & Paukstadt (2003) and Meister (2011)."
