Abstract:

"The authors demonstrate that the species Perigonia ilus Boisduval, 1870 and Perigonia stulta Herrich-Schäffer, 1854 are species complexes comprising three and six species respectively, of which six are here described as new: Perigonia odileae n. sp., Perigonia alexandrei n. sp., Perigonia melichari n. sp.Perigonia guidorum n. sp.,Perigonia haxairei n. sp. and Perigonia rauzieresae n. sp. The type specimens of Perigonia ilus from Honduras and Mexico have not been traced. Therefore, as two similar species co-exist in Central America, a neotype is here designated to stabilize the nomenclature and the type locality of Perigonia ilus. In addition, although the type locality (Suriname) of Perigonia stulta does not pose any current problem, a lectotype is also designated to stabilize its nomenclature."
