Abstract:

"A new species of the nominotypical subgenus Dactyloceras of the Afrotropical genus Dactyloceras MELL in Hering in Seitz, 1927 is described (Lepidoptera: Brahmaeidae) from the Central African Republic. The genus Dactyloceras is restricted to the tropical and subtropical regions north and south of the equator of the African Continent, cf. Paukstadt & Paukstadt (2022b). Thirty-three taxa were described in the genus Dactyloceras (including synonyms but excluded homonyms). Thus far 4 taxa are placed in the nominotypical subgenus Dactyloceras and 29 taxa are placed in the subgenus Shinocksiceras BOUYER, 2002, cf. Paukstadt & Paukstadt (2022a). Bouyer (2002) placed the taxa of the subgenus Dactyloceras into the lucina-group. Those are D. (D.) lucina (DRURY 1782) and its presently considered junior subjective synonym  D. (D.) swanzii (BUTLER, 1871 [“1870”]), D. (D.) tridentatum (CONTE, 1911), and D. (D.) nebulosum BROSCH, NAUMANN & MEISTER, 2002 [“2001”].  D. (D.) nebulosum has been originally described under the name of nebulosa and D. (D.) tridentatum under the name of tridentata but have been emended due to incorrect gender endings in original combinations with Dactyloceras, cf. Naumann, Brosch & Nässig (2005). D. (D.) morettoi sp. nov. is described from the Central African Republic. The new species is distinguised due to the large sizes of the male adults and structures of the male genitalia. The new species is distinct to D. (D.) lucina Cameroon, South-West Region, Gabun, Togo, and Sénégal, D. (D.) nebulosum from Cameroon, Central Region, and D. (D.) tridentatum from the Democratic Republic Congo and Uganda. D. (D.) morettoi sp. nov. is figured in color dorsally and ventrally, the male genitalia structures are figured. Thus far D. (D.) morettoi sp. nov. is only known from the type locality in the Central African Republic. The appropriate female and the life history remain unknown."
