Abstract:

"The authors review the two currently accepted species of the genus Agnosia Rothschild & Jordan, 1903. They show that the type species of the genus, Agnosia orneus, (Westwood, 1847) is congeneric with species of the genus Callambulyx Rothschild & Jordan, 1903. Under the Principle of the First Reviser, they choose to treat Agnosia as a junior subjective synonym of Callambulyx and transfer orneus to that genus as Callambulyx orneus comb. nov. The taxon Smerinthus pudorinus Walker 1856, currently a junior synonym of C. orneus, is revalidated as a subspecies, Callambulyx orneus pudorinus stat. nov. & comb. nov. However, the second species, Agnosia microta Hampson, 1907, is considered not to belong to Callambulyx and is placed in a new genus, Neoagnosia n. gen. as Neoagnosia microta comb. nov. The authors also describe a second subspecies, Neoagnosia microta bahrati n. ssp., from the Indian state of Orissa. Finally, they revalidate the subspecies indochinensis Clark, 1936 of Callambulyx rubricosa (Walker, 1856) as Callambulyx rubricosa indochinensis stat. rev."
