| Abstract: | "This paper is dealing with the distribution pattern of the Afrotropical subgenus Dactyloceras MELL in Hering in Seitz, 1927 (Lepidoptera: Brahmaeidae). So far four species are recognised in this subgenus. Those are: lucina (DRURY, 1782), tridentatum (CONTE, 1911), nebulosum BROSCH, NAUMANN & MEISTER, 2002 [“2001”], and finally morettoi PAUKSTADT & PAUKSTADT, 2025. Since the populations from the type locality of D. (D.) lucina could not be genetically examined, or possibly existing studies were not made publicly available, the true status of D. (D.) swanzii (BUTLER, 1871 [“1870”]) from Ghana (type locality Accra), a taxon which is currently recognised as a junior subjective synonym of D. lucina, is still pending. D. (D.) nebulosum is confirmed here as a distinct species. D. (D.) nebulosum is obviously not a junior subjective synonym of D. (D.) lucina or another closely related species in the lucina-group (sensu Bouyer 2002), which is supported by the distribution pattern and genetic analysis (at BOLD)." |
