Abstract: | "In August 2018, André Brunschwiler and Thomas Maag had success in the ex-ovo breeding after the ovoposition of a moth of Lophostethus caught on light in Larabanga (West Gonja district, northern Ghana) Michael Moosburg, who participated in the breeding, informed me (Boštjan Dvořák) about details of the successful breed of this unusual hawk-moth group already known and precisely documented by Ulf Eitschberger and Manfred Ströhle. As the caterpillars, documented by Brunschwiler and Maag in different instars, which were bred on marsh-mallow shrub (Hibiscus syriacus, Malvaceae), also exhibit a few deviant characteristics, we decided to present the breed within this contribution. Besides the photos taken by Brunschwiler, Maag und Moosburg a few sketches by Dvorak are added, by which differences between the individuals from Ghana and those formerly known of Lophostethus dumolinii (Angas, 1849) is presented." |
