| Abstract: | "The Xylophanes porcus (Hübner, 1823) species group is revised. The complex is shown to comprise ten species, five of which have been previously overlooked. The subspecies Xylophanes porcus continentalis Rothschild and Jordan, 1903, is raised to species status as Xylophanes continentalis stat. nov. The following five new species are described: Xylophanes laguerrei Haxaire & Melichar sp. n. from Argentina; Xylophanes felisi Haxaire & Melichar sp. n. from French Guiana; Xylophanes corpus Haxaire & Melichar sp. n. from Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia; Xylophanes similis Haxaire & Melichar sp. n. from Costa Rica, and Xylophanes nogueirai Haxaire & Melichar sp. n. from Mexico. All species in the group are illustrated, as well as male genitalia." |
