Eumorpha typhon (Taxonomy)

Immediately distinguishable from all other species of Eumorpha by the hindwing upperside being red over the basal half (which extends along the costa to the apex) and the two conspicuous blue spots in the median band between Cua1 and CuA2 and CuA2 and the CuP fold, sometimes with a smaller one between the CuP fold and 1A. Hindwing M2 arising anterior to midline of discal cell; crossvein m2-m3 longer than m3-cua1. Labial palp without white spot. External spines of forebasitarsus not elongate. Uncus slender, ending in a sharp point. Valve broad, a large patch of bristles occupying most of the apical half of the inner face. Harpe similar to Eumorpha satellitia licaon. Aedeagus apical process acute, about twice as long as aedeagus is broad.
