Eumorpha vitis (Taxonomy)
Synonymized (inversely) with Dupo jussieuae by H├╝bner, [1819], Verz. bekannter Schmett.: 137. Reinstated as a species by M├®n├®tri├®s, 1857, Enumeratio Corporum Anim. Mus. imp. Acad. Sci. Petropolitanae (Ins. Lepid.) 2 (Lepid. Heterocera): 92. Transferred to Eumorpha by Hodges, 1971, in Dominick et al., Moths Amer. N. of Mexico21: 122 (key), 126.
Similar to Eumorpha fasciatus fasciatus but immediately distinguishable by the lack of a pink marginal band on the hindwing upperside. Forewing upperside pattern very similar to Eumorpha fasciatus fasciatus but the single straight line posterior to base of CuA2 turned distally near the posterior margin; discal spot round, subdivided by crossvein m3-cua1; veins M3, CuA1 and CuA2 highlighted in white. Hindwing upperside similar to Eumorpha fasciatus fasciatus but anterior-outer corner of black median band prolonged towards costa as a narrow postmedian line, distal to which there is no pink coloration; marginal band narrow, dirty grey-green; tornal area pink. Uncus acute and slender (as in Eumorpha satellitia satellitia). Valve with dorsal margin concave, inner face hairy but with no patch of bristles. Harpe similar to Eumorpha satellitia satellitia, but longer. Aedeagus apical process more curved and less slender than Eumorpha satellitia satellitia.
