Hemaris croatica (Taxonomy)

Immediately distinguishable from all other Hemaris by the fully scaled forewings and uniformly orange hindwing uppersides. Ventral lobes of pulvillus very small; arolium fully developed. Forewing upperside lacking transparent areas; basal two-thirds uniformly green, distal third brown (corresponding to the marginal band of other Hemaris). Hindwing upperside with no transparent spaces, uniformly orange with a small green area basally. Uncus as in Hemaris tityus, but longer.Gnathos slender, dilated apically and obliquely rounded, asymmetrically spatulate. Juxta long, slender, produced ventrally.Valves very similar to Hemaris tityus, the right with scarcely a vestige of the sinus on the ventral edge; Left harpe ending in a spinose lump that is rather more prominent than in Hemaris tityus; right harpe produced into a curved clubbed process, distal half armed with short, erect spines along the upper edge.Aedeagus process long but not sharply pointed.
