Distinguishable from all other species of Hemaris by the off-white dorsal band on abdominal segment 3.Degree of development of the transparent areas on both the forewing and hindwing variable. Third abdominal tergite with an off-white transverse band. Arolium absent. Hindwing upperside entirely orange, apart from the transparent areas, contrasting with the more brown coloration of the forewing upperside. Uncus longer Hemaris tityus, left process longer than the right.Gnathos more spatulate than in Hemaris tityus, apically more rounded, almost symmetrical. Juxta rather densely beset with long setae apically.Left valve more slender than Hemaris tityus, approaching Hemaris fuciformis; right valve ventrally slightly emarginate beyond the middle,Left harpe represented by a conspicuously spinose hump; right harpe long, slender, slightly clubbed, apical half armed with long spines along the upper surface.Aedeagus process rather long but not very sharply pointed.
