Hemaris saundersii (Taxonomy)

Extremely similar to Cephonodes kingii but immediately distinguishable by the more gently tapering posterior half of the forewing marginal band and the reddish (rather than blackish) transverse bands across the fourth and fifth abdominal tergites. Differing from all other species of Hemaris in the reddish-brown transverse bands across the fourth and fifth abdominal tergites. Uncus longer and more slender than in Hemaris staudingeri, left process a little longer than the right.Gnathos asymmetrical, curved towards the left.Juxta slender, gradually narrowed into a smooth ventral process.Left valve little projecting ventrad basally, slightly and almost gradually narrowed to apex; right valve less different from the left than in other Hemaris species, less narrowed apically than the left valve, its ventral margin feebly sinuate in the apical third.Left harpe represented by a small subglobose hump bearing fine setae; right harpe produced into a subcylindrical process that is slightly twisted and feebly clubbed, and bears long setae apically.Aedeagus processes long but not sharply pointed, only a little thinner than the aedeagus.
