Antenna slender, hook long. Underside of thorax, legs, abdomen and apex of anal tuft yellow. Genitalia resembling in some respects those of Cephonodes janus.Tegumen strongly asymmetrical.Uncus somewhat asymmetrical but obviously twisted so that right lobe of the gnathos visible in dorsal view; divided into two divergent, obtuse dissimilar processes. Gnathos almost completely separated into two lobes, the left slightly longer than the right, both apically curved laterad.Juxta truncate.Valves broad, especially the left.Harpe a tiny tooth.Aedeagus stout, very different from that of the other species of Hemaris, ending in a compressed, stout, laterally dentate process.
