Taxonomic Notes:

Synonymized with Chaerocampa eson by Walker, 1856, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 8: 137. Moore, 1858, in Horsfield & Moore, Cat. Lepid. Ins. Mus. East India Company 1: 276, reinstated Chaerocampa thyelia as a species (although misidentified), with Sphinx boerhaviae as a junior synonym. Boisduval, [1875], in: Boisduval & Guenée, Hist. nat. Insectes (Spec. gén. Lépid. Hétérocères) 1: 231, was uncertain whether this synonymy was correct. The inverted synonymy was corrected by Semper, G., 1896, in Semper, C., Reise Archipel Philipp. 2: 394. Transferred to Hippotion by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 749 (key), 756.
