Hippotion roseipennis
Forewings and hindwings similar in shape and pattern to Hippotion batschi and Hippotion saclavorum. A very variable species in forewing colour and pattern. FWL: 22-25 mm. Head and thorax without lateral stripe. Antenna distinctly clubbed in both sexes. External row of foretarsal spines double. Forewing upperside ground colour ranging from pale sandy brown with almost no pattern elements visible other than traces of the antemedial and fifth postmedial lines, to dark brown and grey with conspicuous dark brown V-shaped antemedianlband and a conspicuous fifth postmedial line highlighted distally by a diffuse orange band; in most specimens, the antemedial, and first and fifth postmedial lines are the only conspicuous transverse pattern elements; second to fourth postmedial lines always absent; discal spot a small black dot with a diffuse brown patch just distal to it. Hindwing upperside similar to Hippotion balsaminae.
Male genitalia: uncus rounded-pointed, not sinuate; gnathos broad, rounded-truncate, distinctly incised mesially; process of harpe quite short, stout, little curved, compressed apically; phallus with one or two small subapical teeth on the left side, a pointed, triangular, apical process on the right.
