Hopliocnema brachycera
Body dark smoky grey; head and thorax unicolorous; abdomen with a series of transverse white spots laterally, and the underside somewhat paler. Antenna with scaling white. Forewing upperside coloured like the thorax, with 2 pairs of transverse black lines: the proximal pair in the basal half, the 1st strongly curved costad, nearly forming a right angle in the discal cell, the second at right angles to the costa, forming an obtuse angle just behind the discal cell; the distal pair on the disc, both slightly convex in the middle and concave posteriorly; discal spot greyish white, circled with black; fringe with ill-defined greyish-white spots. Forewing underside densely shaded with greyish-white scaling, with 2 vestigial discal lines. Hindwing upperside dirty white, with or without a trace of a discal line; fringe a little darker than wing, with minute black dots at the veins. Hindwing underside as upperside, but with some scattered brown scales, more numerous in the female; two vestigial brown lines present, best marked at costal margin, which is brown: the 1st line at or just beyond the discal cell, the 2nd nearer the outer margin than the discal cell at vein M3. Uncus quite flat, convex apically, narrow, the apex divided into 2 triangular lobes that turn ventrad.Gnathos flat, narrowed to apex, which is rounded.Valve sole-shaped.Harpe with a simple, concave, slightly spoon-shaped, slightly curved, obtuse process.Aedeagus ending in a short, obliquely truncate, pointed process. Ostial plate without notable features, the post-ostial part membranous, except for a narrow, transverse sclerotised belt; the ante-ostial part more heavily sclerotised, with a proximal transverse fold.Ostial cavity with anterior edge slightly raised, semicircular.
