Leucophlebia rosacea Butler, 1875 [Invalid]

Synonymized with Leucophlebia lineata by Hampson, 1893, Fauna Brit. India 1: 74. Reinstated as a species by Eitschberger, 2003, Neue ent. Nachr. 56: 10. Resynonymized with Leucophlebia lineata by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers. Data J. 6: e22236; and again by Melichar et al., 2018, A field guide to hawkmoths of the state of Karnataka, India: 36. Examination of the long series of Leucophlebia from SW India and Sri Lanka in NHMUK has shown that the purported diagnostic features of the habitus given by Eitschberger (2003) for a single specimen from Goa fall well within the range of individual variation of Leucophlebia lineata. In particular, the "corn-yellow" scaling along veins M3 and CUA1 on the forewing upperside, which was stated to be diagnostic, is present in only a minority of SW Indian specimens in the NHMUK, with most moths having white scaling along these veins. Likewise, the features of the male genitalia that were said to distinguish this Goan specimen of Leucophlebia rosacea from Leucophlebia lineata all fall within the range of individual variation illustrated by Eitschberger (2003) for that species. Consequently, given the lack of any consistent morphological differences between the two taxa, they are here considered to be conspecific.
