Macroglossum eichhorni
The yellow tail is suggestive of Macroglossum corythus fulvicaudata, but Macroglossum eichhorni differs in that the preceding segment is also yellow, with a black median patch. The forewing pattern is also different. Head and thorax uppersides brown, with a dark mesial stripe; head with a white line above the eye. Mesothoracic tegula with a large, dark, triangular patch. Abdomen upperside tergites almost black; 2nd segment with a small, transverse side-spot; 3rd and 4th each with a large orange-ochraceous patch; 4th also with a pair of basal black spots; 7th tergite usually more tawny, with a black mesial patch; tail entirely pale orange-ochraceous, side tufts all pale ochraceous at ends. Palp underside whitish grey. Thorax underside buff mesially, the sides darker. Abdomen underside tawny ochraceous, with darker sides. Forewing upperside with basal area blackish, but not so dark as the antemedial band; antemedial band broad, completely filled, narrowing costad, dilated basad posteriorly, the distal edge scarcely curved; medial space greyish; discal lines weakly curved costad anteriorly, 1st thin, vestigial, 2nd heavy, band-like, slightly dilated behind vein M1; Subapical spot behind vein Rs4, distinct, brownish-black, a rufous spot anterior to it; grey postdiscal line very close to rufous spot. Both wings undersides chestnut, with brown distal margins. Forewing underside with base yellow. Hindwing upperside with yellow band constricted, the black border broad, strongly convex. Hindwing undersides with basal half yellow; anal area deeper yellow, more sharply defined distally, reaching about 2 mm. short of the tip of vein 1A. Forewing length 24-25 mm.
