Type data:
HOLOTYPE ♂ Australia (ex coll. Strange) [NHMUK]. Four other specimens were listed by Walker as variants (in which the forewing white transverse band is entire) and are thus excluded from the syntype series under Article 72.4.1 of the Code.
Taxonomic Notes:
Synonymized with Macroglossum hirundo as a subspecies by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 649 . Reinstated as a species by Moulds, Tuttle & Lane, 2020, Hawkmoths of Australia: 3, 176.
Nomenclature notes:
A Boisduval manuscript name made available by Walker. The name is also applicable to the form in which the forewing white transverse band is broken into two spots.
