Macroglossum regulus
Antennae stout and long. Upperside of head, thorax, and first 3 abdominal segments greenish. Abdomen upperside with orange lateral spots on segments 2-7 large and confluent, the remaining segments deep brownish black, with an uninterrupted belt of pure white at the base of the 7th; tips of long scales of anal brush tawny; side tuft of 3rd segment white, that of 5th black with a buff tip. Palp underside nearly pure white. Thorax underside, legs (apart from posterior tarsus), the greater part of the 1st abdominal sternite and the mesial spot on the 2nd and 3rd creamy. Forewing upperside with 2 antemedial lines curve basad posteriorly, the space between them black; no discal spot; 1st discal line thin, 2nd widened, angled behind vein M1, the dark scaling extending along the posterior edge of vein M1 to a subapical double spot, with a subquadrate grey patch at the proximal side of these spots. Both wings undersides maize-coloured at the extreme base, otherwise coloured like the uppeof the hindwing. Hindwing upperside chestnut-red, not darker at the base, the distal margin slightly blackish, but not forming a well-defined border.
Male genitalia: Uncus pointed, slender apically. Gnathos subtruncate, black apically. Valve without stridulatory scales. Harpe simple, slender, straight, shorter than in Macroglossum gyrans, but similar in shape. Phallus with a short process, denticulate at the distal edge; 2 obtuse cornuti.
