Type data:
SYNTYPES 3 [Bangladesh:] Silhet [Sylhet] (pres. by E. Doubleday); 1 [Burma: Tenasserim,] Moulmein (ex coll. Archdeacon Clerk); 1 North India (ex coll. Stevens); 2 North India; 1 [South Africa: Natal,] Port Natal [Durban] (ex coll. Stevens) [NHMUK]. The type series is mixed and the lectotype should be selected from the Silhet and Moulmein specimens. Only a male from Silhet (with a label bearing the name, “Macrogl. sitiens B.”) and a male from Moulmein have been located in the NHMUK. Of the other syntypes, the "Natal" specimen is currently included under Macroglossum trochilus as a queried misidentification; one of the North India specimens under Macroglossum neotroglodytus; the location of the other North India specimen is unknown.
