HOLOTYPE ♂ West Indies [Bahamas:] "New Providence Island, Nassau" «Andros Island» (G.P. Englehardt) [CMNH]. The original description gave an incorrect type locality: "Nassau, New Providence Island, West Indies". The mistake was corrected by Clark, 1917, Proc. New Engl. zool. Club 6: 57.
Taxonomic Notes:
Proposed as a subspecies of Protoparce afflicta. Queried as a synonym of the nominotypical subspecies by d’Abrera, 1987, Sphingidae Mundi: 24. Treated as a synonym of Manduca afflicta by Bridges, 1993, Cat. Fam. Gen. Spec. Sphingidae of the World: VIII.14. Reinstated as a subspecies of Manduca afflicta by Carcasson & Heppner, 1996, Atlas Neotrop. Lepid. 4B: 50.
