Body and wings greyish creamy buff, dusted with brown and ochreous scales.Forewing length 45 - 47 mm. Head and thorax without markings.Abdomen with small black lateral patches on segments 2-4. Palpus black at eye.Tibia darker than sterna, tarsal segments tipped with buff; 1st protarsal segment with elongate spines, externo-apical spines of following segments also long, but not stout.Pulvillus present. Forewing upperside with: 4 black, dentate lines between base and apex of discal cell, 1st and 2nd incomplete, interrupted, indicated by spots, most conspicuous costally; 3rd and 4th paired, curving costad anteriorly; 3 equidistant black, dentate lines on disc, the proximal generally the best marked; a postdiscal line of sometimes vestigial chevrons; and a series of faint, submarginal, reversed chevrons; oblique apical line vestigial or absent; no discal spot; fringe buff, with small brown dots. Underside of both wings slightly pinkish.Forewing underside much more shaded with brown than upperside, with traces of 3 discal bands. Hindwing upperside blackish brown, with a costal space (covered by the forewing), and an ill-defined anal area extending along the inner margin to the base and along the distal margin both creamy buff; 2 more or less indistinct black, discal lines curved near the anal angle; fringe buff with indistinct brown dots. Hindwing underside paler than forewing, with a blackish band just distal to the apex of the discal cell, followed by 2 further bands, the 1st of which is often absent; a broad, brown, ill-defined submarginal band. Similar to that of Manduca florestan, but:gnathos more deeply sinuate;harpe less rounded, being longer basi-distally; teeth of dorsal margin quite heavy, the larger ones usually carrying 1 or 2 small ones.
