The most easily recognised species of the group though it is closely allied to [Manduca pellenia]. Antenna thinner and shorter than in Manduca pellenia. Foretarsus 1st segment with long spines not stout, with numerous short spines dorsal to them.No pulvillus. Hindwing upperside with whitish subbasal band more or less obviously interrupted; a generally rather large dirty white patch within the black central band near the anal angle. Uncus somewhat more slender than in Manduca pellenia or Manduca scutata.Gnathos longer than in Manduca pellenia or Manduca scutata.Harpe with ventral process quite short, horizontal, curved, pointed, the apex less broad than in Manduca lucetius.Aedeagus with tooth less distal than in Manduca pellenia or Manduca scutata, broad but not prominent, lying close to the aedeagus, with sometimes only the short, acute point projecting free; apical edge of aedeagus rounded dorsally. Similar to that in Manduca scutata, but the ante-ostial plate smaller.
