Manduca incisa (Taxonomy)
Synonymized with Sphinx lefebvrei [sic] by Boisduval, [1875], in: Boisduval & Guen├®e, Hist. nat. Insectes (Spec. g├®n. L├®pid. H├®t├®roc├¿res) 1: 81. Reinstated as a species by Rothschild & Jordan, 1916, Novit. zool.23: 250. Transferred to Manduca by d'Abrera, [1987], Sphingidae Mundi: 28.
May be distinguished from Manduca lefeburii by the possession of narrow black mesial line on the abdomen upperside; by the forewing upperside being paler proximal to the transverse band than distal to it; by the somewhat more conspicuous distal costal mark; and by the more extended apical line. Similar to those of Manduca lefeburii, but:uncus less slender in lateral view;gnathos broader and shorter, not nearly so deeply cleft, the lobes being about as broad as long;harpe larger, the dentate part more rounded, and the apical process longer;aedeagus with a row of teeth at the apical margin, the row ending proximally with one or two larger teeth that correspond with the 2 teeth of Manduca lefeburii. Abdomen with 8th sternite evenly convex transversely into an arch, not as swollen as in Manduca lefeburii.Ante-ostial plate different from other Manduca, being deeply round-sinuate.
