Synonymized with Protoparce perplexa by Oiticica Filho, 1964, Bolm nac. Mus. Rio de J. (N.S. Zool.) 253: 7. Implicitly treated as a subspecies of Manduca perplexa by Bridges, 1993, Cat. Fam. Gen. Both wings uppersides with basal and apical areas more prominently variegated than (sympatric) Manduca brasiliensis; hindwing upperside with grey bands tinted with yellow. Saccus short and quite broad, not long and narrow as in Manduca lucetius.Valve with apex tapering to a broad, blunt point, not spatulate apically as in Manduca lucetius.Harpe with distal margin of dorsal lobe strongly convex, and forming an acute angle of about 45┬░ with ventral process, which in dorsal view curves markedly away from the face of the valve; in Manduca lucetius the distal edge of the dorsal lobe is straight, the lobe taller, forming an angle of nearly 90┬░ with the ventral process, which in dorsal view is not so strongly recurved apically.
