Manduca manducoides
Recognisable by the forewing upperside being largely very dark, with few paler markings; by the hindwing upperside with an extensive white basal area; and by the underside of the thorax and abdomen being suffused with pink. Abdomen with 3 yellow side patches. Underside of body, or just thorax, suffused with pink. Labial palp with 2nd segment rather long, with tip buffish white. Pulvillus present. Foretarsus 1st segment with 3 long spines; 2nd segment with 1 long apical spine, without short external spines. Forewing upperside similar to Manduca rustica, but discal spot larger; marginal dots smaller; white scaling more restricted, especially in the outer half, where there is a conspicuous buffish-white discal band, the area distal to this is black, except for traces of a white submarginal line. Underside of wings greyish brown, more grey on hindwing, especially towards the inner margin; no distinct bands; so very different from that of Manduca rustica, which is greyish white, with a dark brown distal border and dark brown serrate postmedial and submarginal bands between it and the discal cell.
