Transferred (implicitly) to Manduca by Hodges, 1971, in Dominick et al. Moths Amer. N. of Mexico21: 28.
Morphology:
Very similar to, and often misidentified in collections as, Manduca sesquiplex. Differs by:forewing much less elongate;ground colour of body and wings much darker, almost olive; hindwing with pale bands less prominent; uncus shorter and broader;gnathos much shorter, not raised mesially on ventral surface;harpe with distal margin less slanting, the upper angle produced dorsad into a heavy tooth;aedeagus with tooth longer, pointing distad. Abdomen with 8th sternite heavily sclerotised, raised into a heavy transverse tubercle just posterior to the ostium.Ante-ostial plate weak, wrinkled, the margin almost straight.
