Manduca pellenia
Antenna almost as stout as in Manduca sexta. Abdomen underside shaded with brown scales, especially in the male. Foretarsus with 1st segment externally with 4 or 5 moderately long spines and numerous small ones above them. No pulvillus. Forewing upperside with discal, black, pubescent patches heavy, forming a band that is strongly angled near vein M3; the oblique, black apical line and the posterior part of the black postdiscal line both very heavy; submarginal zigzag line creamy buff rather than white; the cells between veins M3 and CuP more or less russet between the discal band and postdiscal line.
Male genitalia: Uncus and gnathos similar to those of Manduca lucetius; the uncus broader, and the gnathos shorter than in Manduca hannibal. Valve elongate sole-shaped, the dorsal margin bent inwards, with a slightly bent, horizontal, pointed, dentate ventral process that is about as long as the dentate lobe of the harpe is broad in the middle. Harpe with dentate lobe that curves dorsad, resembling that in Manduca dalica, but is not sickle shaped as it is in Manduca hannibal and Manduca diffissa petuniae, etc. Phallus with a strong horizontal, apical tooth as in Manduca rustica.
Female genitalia: Lobe of ostial plate strongly rounded, with 2 transverse folds; the plate sunken proximally, without the projecting edge of Manduca lucetius, Manduca occulta, Manduca sexta, etc.
