Manduca sesquiplex (Boisduval, 1870)

Ground colour of body and wings whitish smoky grey, much paler than the greenish Manduca sesquiplex opima.Forewing longer than in Manduca sesquiplex opima, with the lines less prominent; hindwing upperside with the 2 black median bands further apart. Antenna thick and long. Palpus with 2nd and 3rd segments together only slightly shorter than 1st.Pulvillus vestigial. Uncus long, slender, pointed, gradually and slightly curved.Gnathos more than twice as long as broad (but broader than in Manduca sesquiplex opima), truncate, mesially sinuate, subcarinate on ventral surface, slightly curved dorsad.Valve gradually narrowed to apex, the dorso-apical margin slightly bent inwards.Harpe broad, without ventral process, the distal margin bent basad, forming an acute angle with the horizontal dorsal margin.Aedeagus with a heavy, nearly apical tooth; the edge of the aedeagus opposite the tooth bent inwards and with another shorter, suberect tooth.
