Marumba quercus
Transferred to Marumba by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool.9 (suppl.): 269 (key), 282.
Similar to a large, pale, ochreous Laothoe populi although, when at rest, the hindwings do not project above the forewings. Ground colour very variable, ranging from very pale ochreous or buff to dark brown, which is the predominant colour form among females in Asia Minor and Mesopotamia. In some, smoky grey is the main colour, while individual brown females may have yellowish white transverse lines on the wings, or a complete absence of any line. Another form has bright pink basal areas on the hindwings with the ventral surface of a similar colour (f. mesopotamica Bang-Haas).
Male genitalia: Uncus broader than in Marumba dyras not quite as broad as in Marumba sperchius; deeply divided with lobes pointed. Gnathos triangular, pointed. Valva with dorso-apical lobe not produced into a dagger-like process as it is in Marumba sperchius; processes of subdorsal basal fold not so obviously granulose as in other species. Harpe short, irregularly notched.
Femlae genitalia: Sterigma with ridge before ostium bursae thickened, broadly rounded, weakly trisinuate with lateral sinus continued proximally by a forked groove.
