Pachygonidia ribbei (Taxonomy)
Transferred to Pachygonidia by d'Abrera, [1987], Sphingidae Mundi: 106.
Immediately distinguished from all other Pachygonidia by the lack of distinct pale bands on the hindwing upperside.Outer margin of forewing more or less denticulate; tornus less produced than in other species of Pachygonidia. Hindtibia with a triangular dorsal and ventral crest on the basitarsus but no crests on the second and third tarsomeres. Forewing upperside with the pale brown submarginal patch on M1-M2 distinct and much larger than in any other species of Pachygonidia; median and posterior parts of wing with diffuse patches of pale violet scales. Hindwing upperside with the pinkish/yellowish bands of other species of Pachygonidia indicated by two short bars at the anal angle. Uncus shorter than in the other species of Pachygonidia, very densely clothed in hairs, compressed, basally elevated in the medial line, tip rounded, sinuate in a posterior view.Gnathos not much shorter than uncus, narrowed in apical quarter, tip rounded, somewhat upcurved.Valve slightly narrowing to the broadly rounded end.Harpe dilated apically into an obtuse dorsal and acute ventral process; from the harpe extends an angle-shaped fold on the valve, the space limited by this fold clothed in blackish spiniform hairs.Aedeagus with an obtusely pointed, three-edged process, right edge dentate.
